The Electoral Commission (EC) of Ghana has conducted a balloting process to assign positions for each political party’s candidate on the ballot papers for the upcoming general elections on December 7, 2024. This event took place at the EC’s headquarters in Accra on Friday, September 20, 2024.

Thirteen candidates are set to contest in the elections, with the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) securing the first and eighth positions on the ballot, respectively. Kofi Akpaloo from the Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG) will appear in the fifth position, while Nana Akosua Frimpomaa of the Convention People’s Party (CPP) has drawn the seventh spot.

Independent candidates also participated in the balloting, with Kofi Koranteng taking the tenth position and George Twum Barima-Adu securing the eleventh. The New Force Movement, led by Nana Kwame Bediako (Cheddar), will be listed in twelfth place, followed by the Movement for Change at thirteenth.

A total of nine political parties attended the balloting event. However, the EC disqualified several candidates, including Bernard Mornah of the People’s National Convention (PNC) and Janet Nabla of the People’s National Party (PNP), due to issues with their nomination forms. Other disqualified candidates include Nana Stephens Adjepong, Paul Perkoh, James Kwesi Oppong, John Enyonam Kwakwu Kpikpi, Dr. Samuel Sampong Ankrah, Nii Amu Darko, Samuel Apea-Danquah, Desmond Abrefah, and Kofi Asamoah Siaw from the Progressive People’s Party.

The balloting process was not without controversy; it faced a brief disruption when Dr. Omane Boamah, representing the NDC, raised concerns about one of the balls used in the draw. Following a discussion that lasted over thirty minutes, the EC agreed to replace the disputed ball and resumed the process.
