Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer for the 2024 presidential elections, recently released the fleshed-out manifesto committee list.
However, it has come to light that some individuals have turned down the offer to serve on the committee. Within less than a week of the list’s release, three people have declined their appointments.
One of the individuals who declined the appointment was a member of the tourism and creative arts subcommittee. Another was a member of the sports subcommittee, and the third person was from the economy subcommittee.
Charles Osei Asibey, who was a member of the Sports Subcommittee, released a statement on February 25, 2024, explaining his decision to decline the appointment. Asibey is a veteran journalist, President of the Africa Armwrestling Federation, and Vice President of the World Armwrestling Federation.
In his statement, he expressed his desire to maintain an apolitical stance, stating that it is important for him to remain neutral and impartial in his current roles within the sporting community. As a result, he decided not to join the campaign subcommittee.
Okyeame Kwame, a highlife musician, has clarified that he was neither formally appointed to the manifesto committee nor affiliated with the New Patriotic Party (NPP). In a press statement dated February 24, 2024, he emphasized that he had not received any payment for taking up a role in the committee.
Okyeame Kwame reassured his followers and reiterated his non-partisan and apolitical stance, which he has maintained throughout his entire career. He stated that he had not been paid by the campaign team of Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia to be a member of the committee for the arts and tourism manifesto. Furthermore, he clarified that he had not been officially invited on his own terms as a non-partisan participant.

The musician expressed his willingness to contribute his policy opinions for the advancement of the arts and culture in Ghana, irrespective of political or ideological persuasions. He stated that he was open to working with any political party, including the NPP, NDC, CPP, Independent candidates, or others, who genuinely sought his knowledge to develop the arts industry.
The Ghana Stock Exchange (GSE) has issued an official statement clarifying that its CEO, Abena Amoah, was not approached by the campaign team and was not involved in any discussions or agreements regarding the manifesto committee.
The statement from the GSE categorically stated that the Abena Amoah listed as a co-chair of the Economy Subcommittee was not the same person as Abena Amoah, the Managing Director of the Ghana Stock Exchange. The GSE statement made it clear that their Managing Director had not been approached or had any involvement in the subject matter of the campaign team.
This disclaimer from the GSE highlights the mistaken identity and confirms that the Abena Amoah listed as the co-chair of the Economy Subcommittee was not the CEO of the Ghana Stock Exchange. It clarifies that there was no affiliation or agreement between the campaign team and the GSE’s Managing Director regarding the manifesto committee.
