Six persons are said to have been killed in a recent gun incident in Nkwanta South, Oti Region.
Eyewitnesses said armed gunmen opened fire on residents at the Nkwanta Central Market early Tuesday morning. The victims are being treated at Nkwanta St. Joseph Catholic Hospital right now.
Tribal confrontations between the Adele, Challa, and Akyode ethnic groups have occurred in the region over land dispute concerns. Recent clashes have also been tied to a dispute over a Yam Festival hosted by the Akyode people in Nkwanta.

Despite the Oti Regional Security Council’s efforts to resolve the concerns, tensions remain. According to Oti Regional Minister Joshua Mukubu, officials have been deployed to examine the cause of the fresh attack.
The Regional Security Council has also met with chiefs and other opinion leaders to persuade citizens to lay down their guns and work together to restore peace.

Meanwhile, police and military troops have been sent to keep the calm and protect civilians.
