In the early hours of Wednesday, September 11, a devastating fire engulfed three auto parts shops and a cold store on the Kamara-Mamprobi stretch in Accra.

Eyewitnesses reported that the blaze, which started around 5:45 am, was triggered by a faulty electrical system in one of the shops. The flames rapidly spread to adjacent businesses, causing significant damage.

Divisional Officer 3 William Sackey, in charge of operations at the Dansoman Fire Station, detailed the response efforts to Channel One News. Upon arrival, the fire team encountered an additional hazard: the main service wire near the shops was emitting electrical shocks.

This complication necessitated a call for backup to effectively combat the fire. Despite their swift action, the fire department faced delays due to interference from a large crowd, prompting the need for police assistance to secure the scene.

By 8:45 am, the fire had been brought under control with the help of additional personnel from the Circle Fire Station. Although the immediate danger was contained, the fire had already caused substantial damage to the affected businesses. The Dansoman Fire Station has assured the public that a thorough investigation is underway to determine the exact cause of the blaze and prevent future incidents.

As the investigation continues, the incident highlights the critical need for regular maintenance and safety checks of electrical systems in commercial areas. The fire serves as a stark reminder of the potential hazards posed by faulty electrical infrastructure and the importance of prompt and coordinated emergency responses.
