Accra Hearts of Oak won the first edition of the CAF Confederation Cup in 2004 by beating their rivals Asante Kotoko on penalties, at the Baba Yara sports stadium.

But things didn’t go according to plan for the Phobians in their first leg of the 2022/2023 CAF Confederation Cup.

AS Bamako defeated the winners of the 2022 MTN FA Cup (Accra Hearts of Oak) by 3-0 in the first round of the CAF Confederation Cup in Mali on Saturday, October 8, 2022. The Phobians have to go back to their drawing board to check their mistakes and come back strongly as they host AS Real Bamako next weekend in Accra on October 16, 2022.

Hearts entered the game poorly and was outplayed by the Malian club who scored two goals in the first half and added the third goal in the 73rd minute of the second half.

AS Bamako turned out to be the better side in the 90 minutes of the game. The comfortable win of the Malian club ensures them that they would be coming to Accra for the return leg with a big advantage.

The defeat was nothing to write home about. Due to that, the Phobians apologized to their fans after the humiliating defeat and promised to do better in the second leg of the CAF Confederation Cup at the Accra sports stadium.
