AFCON 2025: Ghana Draws Kwasi Appiah’s Sudan, Nigeria Faces Libya

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) recently conducted the draw for the qualifying series leading up to the 2025 African Cup of Nations (AFCON), which is set to take place in Morocco from December 21, 2025, to January 18, 2026.

The draw has set the stage for an exciting journey towards determining the teams that will participate in Africa’s premier football tournament.

Ghana, aiming for their 11th consecutive AFCON appearance, finds themselves in Group F. They will face stiff competition from Sudan, Angola, and Nigeria, the latter managed by former Ghana captain and coach Kwasi Appiah, adding an intriguing narrative to the group dynamics.

Defending champions Cote d’Ivoire have been placed in Group G, where they will contend with Zambia, Sierra Leone, and Chad, as they look to defend their title against formidable opponents.

Nigeria, silver medalists in the 2023 AFCON, headline Group I alongside Benin, Libya, and Rwanda, setting the stage for competitive clashes as they seek to qualify for another shot at AFCON glory.

Senegal, the 2021 AFCON champions, will battle it out in Group L against Burkina Faso, Malawi, and Burundi, aiming to showcase their dominance once again on the continental stage.

Host nation Morocco has been drawn into Group B alongside Gabon, the Central African Republic, and Lesotho, which presents a significant advantage for Morocco to perform well in front of their home crowd.

Meanwhile, Algeria, winners of the 2019 AFCON, will navigate Group E where they will face Equatorial Guinea, Togo, and Liberia, as they aim to make their mark once again in African football.

The qualifying series promises thrilling encounters and intense competition as teams vie for coveted spots in the 2025 AFCON tournament in Morocco, showcasing the richness and diversity of African football talent across the continent.
