Alexander Afenyo-Markin, the newly appointed Majority Leader in Parliament, has expressed surprise and shock at his new role.
In a briefing to Parliament following his official introduction as the Leader of the Majority caucus, Afenyo-Markin stated that he had never anticipated receiving the position so soon. He remarked, “I never saw it coming.”
In addition, Alexander Afenyo-Markin remarked, “It has been rough, and sometimes it is as if there is no light at the end of the tunnel.”
After officially briefing the House and Speaker Alban Bagbin on the changes to the leadership of the Majority, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, the predecessor of Alexander Afenyo-Markin, urged all New Patriotic Party (NPP) lawmakers and the entire Parliament to support Afenyo-Markin in his new role.

“I introduce to you Afenyo-Markin who takes over from me as Majority Leader,” he went on to say.
He told the lawmakers, particularly the Majority, to “support my successor to prosecute the remaining agenda of the government.”
During his address on the floor of the House, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu confirmed that his resignation as Majority Leader was voluntary. He expressed gratitude to Speaker Alban Bagbin for the cooperation and collaboration they had shared throughout their time working together.
Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu thanked Bagbin for the support and assistance provided during his tenure as Majority Leader.
Despite stepping down from his position as Majority Leader, it was reported that Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu would continue to serve as the Minister for Parliamentary Affairs.
