The Volta River Authority (VRA) has reported a significant reduction in the water inflow into the Akosombo Dam.
The water level as of Friday, October 27, had dropped to a noticeable level due to the closure of the gate, and this decrease is also attributed to the reduction in the amount of water being spilled.
The VRA had initiated controlled water spillage from the Akosombo and Kpong Dams on September 15, 2023, due to a consistent rise in the inflow pattern and water level of the Akosombo reservoir.
This action had led to the flooding of homes and communities in several areas, including South Tongu, North Tongu, Central Tongu, Asuogyaman, and others.

During an interview, the Deputy Chief Executive Officer of VRA, Ing. Edward Obeng-Kenzo, explained that they had started closing the gate and reducing the amount of water being spilled, which was why water levels in affected communities were receding.
The water level had reduced to 277.06 as of 12:00 PM on the day of the interview. The VRA is monitoring the situation to handle any potential surprises.
