The family of the late Akua Donkor, founder and flagbearer of the Ghana Freedom Party (GFP), is in shock following her death on Monday in Accra. In an interview with JoyNews, the family head, Opanin Nana Yao Poku, shared their disbelief upon receiving the news, initially suspecting it to be political propaganda. However, confirmation of her passing left them in a state of grief.
Poku reflected on Akua Donkor’s passionate commitment to her political aspirations, expressing regret that she did not live to fulfill her dream of becoming president.
Akua Donkor founded the GFP in 2011, gaining registration in 2012 after multiple attempts to contest local elections in her native Kwabre, Ashanti Region.

She had previously sought election as a Member of Parliament for Kwabre East in 2004 and ran for the presidency in the 2024 elections under the GFP banner
