Actress and social media influencer, Akuapem Poloo, now embracing the name Haniya in Islam, has returned from her pilgrimage to Mecca profoundly moved by the experience.
In an intimate conversation with Graphic Showbiz, Haniya opened up about the depth of her emotions and the immense gratitude she feels after performing Umrah, a sacred journey akin to the Hajj.
Reflecting on her pilgrimage, Haniya shared the overwhelming yet deeply fulfilling moments she experienced, such as walking between the hills of Safah and Marwa and touching the sacred Kaaba in Mecca. She emphasized the positive impact Islam has had on her life, expressing gratitude for the newfound sense of purpose and peace it has brought her.
“Islam has truly transformed my life. I have abstained from alcohol and become a better woman and mother to my son. I conduct myself in a manner that brings him pride, and I have earned respect from my social media followers. I am constantly at peace.”
Describing her conversion as a journey of transformation, Haniya highlighted significant changes such as abstaining from alcohol, improving her parenting skills, and gaining respect from her online followers as tangible results of her faith journey.

While she initially faced challenges adapting to Islamic practices, she now wholeheartedly embraces them, attributing her successful transition to the guidance of Islamic leaders and the support of her Muslim community.
“It wasn’t easy at first with some of the Islamic teachings and practices,” she admitted. “However, with determination, perseverance, and encouragement from Islamic leaders who guided me in my conversion, as well as the support of my Muslim friends, I now find joy in practicing Islam despite my imperfections.”
Haniya underscored the beauty of Islam, emphasizing the unity in worshipping one God and the profound tranquility she has discovered in her faith. Overflowing with gratitude for her spiritual journey, she expressed heartfelt appreciation to Allah, Chief Imam Sheikh Usman Sharubutu for his guidance, and Alhaji Abdul Salam for facilitating her pilgrimage.
