Members of the Church of Pentecost in Asante Akyem Agogo, Ashanti region, were left astounded when a 16-year-old girl reportedly absconded with a baby during a church service.
The accused, Emelia Yendulom, allegedly misled the baby’s grandmother by falsely stating that the mother needed to breastfeed him.
The incident occurred during a christening ceremony at the church on Sunday, March 24, 2024.
Emelia vanished with the baby, causing great distress to the parents.
It was later discovered that she had taken the child to her family’s home in Agogo Zongo, pretending to be the mother.

Suspicions arose due to Emelia’s history of mental health issues and ongoing treatment at a prayer camp in Ananekrom.
Concerned family members verified the situation with the prayer camp and realized Emelia’s deception. They promptly handed her and the baby over to the police, resulting in her arrest.
The mother, who had already reported the incident to the police, confirmed the child’s identity.
While the police acknowledge Emelia’s past involvement in baby abduction, her mental health condition complicates potential legal proceedings.
Currently, both the suspect and the baby’s grandmother are cooperating with the police investigation.
