Following the revelation, Nasir and his companion faced a brutal assault from his long-standing childhood acquaintances. The situation escalated to the extent that security personnel had to intervene, firing a warning shot to disperse the enraged crowd.

Currently recuperating in the hospital, Nasir finds himself overwhelmed with emotions as he contemplates the possibility of reporting the incident to law enforcement authorities for protection and seeking legal recourse to attain justice.

“I was at the antenatal care clinic when they brought him to the hospital reception. It was a truly distressing scene. I shudder to think what might have happened if he hadn’t been rescued promptly,” recounted a pregnant woman who witnessed the incident.

“Now that the law has deemed LGBTQ+ activities illegal, it’s imperative that we report any suspected individuals to the authorities instead of resorting to this barbaric form of vigilante justice. Too often, it results in the unjust targeting of innocent individuals,” advised one of the doctors.

Homosexuality is widely regarded as an abomination within the Ghanaian community, a sentiment that has been amplified by the recent passage of an anti-gay bill.

However, Winnie Byanyima, the Executive Director of UNAIDS, has raised serious concerns regarding Ghana’s adoption of this legislation. In a statement, UNAIDS cautioned that if implemented, the bill could provoke violence, obstruct access to crucial life-saving services, and erode fundamental freedoms, potentially stalling Ghana’s developmental trajectory.

Byanyima stressed the detrimental consequences this legislation could have on the battle against AIDS and public health in general. The statement underscored the potential infringement on individual liberties and its adverse impact on broader efforts to address health challenges.
