Ghana’s Ambassador to Burkina Faso, Boniface Gambila Adagbila, has cautioned that Ghana could become vulnerable to terrorism if it does not engage in collaborative counterterrorism efforts with Burkina Faso.
His warning follows a recent Reuters report suggesting that Islamist militants are covertly using northern Ghana to access logistical support, such as food, fuel, and medical treatment. According to the report, these fighters reportedly cross into Ghana for supplies, and local authorities may be overlooking these activities to maintain security within Ghana’s borders.

Ambassador Adagbila refuted these allegations on Joy FM’s Top Story, asserting that Burkina Faso is actively enhancing its counterterrorism operations. He stressed the need for Ghanaians and travelers to use official border crossing points to ensure safety, warning that careless travel in the region could lead to unforeseen dangers. He emphasized, “If we don’t support Burkina Faso to win the terrorism battle…Ghana will be vulnerable to terrorism.”
Adagbila highlighted the necessity for regional cooperation, pointing out that Burkina Faso has already lost substantial territory to insurgents linked to al-Qaeda and ISIS. He called for enhanced support to help Burkina Faso push back against the militants, thereby preventing them from advancing toward Ghana and other neighboring countries. His remarks underscore the increasing terrorist threat within West Africa and advocate for a proactive, preventive approach to safeguarding Ghana’s security.
