AngloGold Ashanti’s Obuasi Mine has partnered with the Otumfuo Charity Foundation to provide 47,000 textbooks to elementary school kids in Obuasi, totaling over 100,000 books through their free textbook distribution campaign.
During the transfer ceremony, AngloGold Ashanti’s Social Development and Gender Superintendent, Ms. Mavis Nana Yaa Kyei, highlighted the strategic partnership’s good influence on school quality in Obuasi.
The effort is consistent with the company’s 10-Year Socio-Economic Development Plan and the Basic Education Improvement Programme, emphasizing the importance of knowledge for society advancement.

AngloGold Ashanti has started building test printing sites in Obuasi East District and Obuasi Municipality as part of their overall education improvement plan.
Projects include a nine-unit classroom block at Sanso, a robotics center at Obuasi Senior High Technical School, and educator capacity-building seminars.
Kwabena Owusu Nketia, District Education Director for Obuasi East, commended AngloGold Ashanti’s efforts as a game changer in reducing the government’s resource burden for teaching and learning.
AngloGold Ashanti’s commitment to STEM education is reflected in initiatives such as science, mathematics, and ICT textbook donations.
The Otumfuo Charity Foundation’s Stakeholder Relations and Capacity Building Manager, Kwabena Owusu Ababio, anticipates that textbook distribution will improve students’ access to learning materials, complementing government resources.
