Hassan Ayariga, the founder of the All People’s Congress, has voiced his belief that President Akufo-Addo’s shortcomings in governance have paved the way for former President John Dramani Mahama’s bid to return to power.
In an interview on the Class Morning Show with Kwame Dwomoh-Agyemang on Friday, April 26, 2024, Ayariga asserted that Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo failed to fulfill the expectations of Ghanaians, even before assuming office.
Reflecting on the country’s current status after eight years, Ayariga questioned whether President Akufo-Addo’s performance surpassed that of his predecessor.

“People bestowed great hopes upon him, and despite our reservations about his candidacy, Ghanaians entrusted President Nana Akufo-Addo with the mandate. Now, eight years later, where do we stand as a nation? Can we assert that President Akufo-Addo has outperformed his predecessor? The answer remains negative, despite my lack of support for the former president,” Ayariga emphasized.
Ayariga suggested that Mahama’s decision to contest in the 2024 general elections stemmed from Akufo-Addo’s perceived poor governance.
Addressing economic metrics such as inflation and the stability of the Cedi, Ayariga argued that Akufo-Addo’s administration falls short of Mahama’s achievements.
