Azamati and Saminu qualify for men’s 100m semifinals at Paris 2024 Olympics

Ghanaian sprinters Benjamin Azamati and Abdul-Rasheed Saminu have both advanced to the semifinals of the men’s 100m at the ongoing Paris Olympics.

Azamati, who holds Ghana’s national record for the 100m, clocked 10.08 seconds to finish second in Heat 1, just behind Jamaica’s Kishane Thompson.

The race featured some drama, including a disqualification for Great Britain’s Jeremiah Azu due to a false start. Ghanaian sprinters Benjamin Azamati and Abdul-Rasheed Saminu have both advanced to the semifinals of the men’s 100m at the Paris Olympics. Azamati, who holds Ghana’s national record for the 100m, finished second in Heat 1 with a time of 10.08 seconds, just behind Jamaica’s Kishane Thompson. The heat featured a notable disqualification of Great Britain’s Jeremiah Azu for a false start.

Meanwhile, Saminu secured his spot from Heat 7, finishing third with a time of 10.06 seconds, trailing only Nigeria’s Kayinsola Ajayi and the reigning Olympic champion, Marcell Jacobs. This marks the first time both Azamati and Saminu have reached an Olympic semifinal. The men’s 100m semifinals are set for Sunday evening.
