Ningo-Prampram legislator Sam Nartey George has stated that Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the flagbearer of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), owes him $7 million. He attributed this debt to the NPP’s failure to deliver on its promise of allocating one million dollars to each constituency.
In an interview on GHOne, Mr. Sam George remarked, “I have not received a single pesewa. I am owed $7 million.”
During his 2016 campaign, President Nana Akufo-Addo assured Ghanaians that, if elected, his administration would implement a program to provide every constituency with one million dollars to accelerate local development.
On August 30, 2016, then-Vice Presidential candidate Dr. Bawumia announced this policy, which was part of the infrastructure for poverty eradication initiative, with a total budget of $1.6 billion. The NPP government intended to use these funds for pro-poor projects across the country’s villages.
However, the NPP government has not fulfilled its promise of providing each constituency with a million dollars.
