Braimah Isaac Kamoko, commonly known as Bukom Banku, has declared his retirement from boxing, expressing the intention to pass the torch to his children.
Bukom Banku secured a bronze medal in the heavyweight division at the 1999 African Games in South Africa, setting the stage for his professional journey. With a commanding presence in the ring, he amassed an impressive record of 29 victories in 30 fights. His sole defeat occurred in October 2017 against Bastie Samir.
In an interview with Okay FM, Bukom Banku explained his choice, stating, “I’ve matured, and my eye is also causing me pain, so I’ve chosen not to fight anymore. Three of my children are boxers, so I’ve handed over everything to them. I’ve stored away my gloves and shoes, all for Abu Kamoko and Mustafa Kamoko. I’ve paved the way for them to carry on.”
Bukom Banku disclosed his future endeavors, sharing that he is transitioning into comedy and hosting concerts. He emphasized, “I have concluded my boxing career, and now I’m venturing into comedy and organizing my own shows.”
Bukom Banku engaged in the majority of his professional bouts in Africa, predominantly in Ghana. He achieved a notable victory in the United Kingdom against Hungarian Ferenc Albert, securing the win after three rounds in 2019.
