CAF has revealed a 40% boost in prize money for the winner of the 2023 TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), scheduled to take place in Côte d’Ivoire from January 13 to February 11.

The champion of the TotalEnergies AFCON Côte d’Ivoire 2023 will receive $7 million, marking a notable increase from the $5 million awarded to previous winners, Senegal, in 2021.

Under the increased prize structure, the runner-up will now receive $4 million, each of the two semi-finalists will be awarded $2.5 million, and each of the four quarter-finalists will receive $1.3 million in the TotalEnergies AFCON Côte d’Ivoire 2023.

As of Thursday, January 4, 2024, CAF made the announcement regarding the increased prize money for the 2023 TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations. In 2021, CAF had raised the winner’s cash prize from $4.5 million to $5 million, with the runner-up receiving $2.75 million. Senegal emerged victorious in 2021, securing their first title by defeating Egypt on penalties in the final.

According to CAF, the substantial increase in prize money is anticipated to elevate the stakes and intensify the competition, adding an extra layer of excitement to the 2023 AFCON for participants.
