During a recent visit to the Dome market, Member of Parliament Sarah Adwoa Safo faced a challenging reception as some market women expressed their discontent by booing and jeering at her.
The market women in her constituency were notably displeased with her prolonged absence from her parliamentary duties and her constituency for over a year.
In an attempt to reconnect with her constituents, a video widely circulated on social media shows Adwoa Safo offering handshakes to market women, but the negative response is evident, with loud cheers, cries, and applause demonstrating their dissatisfaction.
Some of the market women can be heard calling for change and expressing their unwillingness to accept the same Adwoa Safo. Despite the disapproval, she continued to shake hands with other vendors who welcomed her.

In 2022, Adwoa Safo’s extended absence from the legislative assembly led to significant controversy. She repeatedly failed to appear before the Privileges Committee when summoned to explain her non-attendance, and the committee recommended her seat’s vacancy.
However, the Speaker of Parliament concluded that the report was not definitive and required a decision by the full House, leading to disagreements among parliamentarians.
Adwoa Safo has recently issued an apology to the President and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for the disruption her prolonged absence caused in her parliamentary responsibilities.
