A cholera outbreak in Kasoa has resulted in the deaths of five people, while 30 others are currently receiving treatment at the Kasoa Polyclinic and Mother and Child Hospital.
The outbreak, which has spread to surrounding areas such as Awutu Senya West and Gomoa East, claimed three lives on October 31, with two additional deaths reported on November 1.

Awutu Senya East Municipal Chief Executive Anita Love Obo Amissah expressed deep concern over the rapid spread of the disease, urging residents to prioritize hygiene and health practices to help curb transmission. She commended the healthcare workers at both facilities for their prompt response, noting that additional staff had been recalled to support containment efforts.
Municipal Environmental Officer Godson Lodo emphasized preventive measures for traders and food vendors, advising market women to maintain cleanliness and urging food vendors to ensure their food is always served hot. Both officials highlighted the importance of clean surroundings and proper sanitation as essential steps for Kasoa’s residents to limit the outbreak’s spread.
This outbreak has underscored the need for a collaborative approach among local authorities, health professionals, and residents to contain the disease and prevent further fatalities.
