Francisca Ashietey-Odunton, Ghana’s Ambassador to Turkey, has confirmed that Christian Atsu, a former Black Stars player, has been rescued after spending hours trapped.
After an earthquake in Turkey destroyed dozens of homes, trapping Christian Atsu inside the rubble, many people were injured or killed.
Christian Atsu and a few of his teammates were trapped in the 7.7 magnitude earthquake that struck Turkey on Monday. It took the rescue crew almost a day to locate them.
On February 7, 2023, Ashietey-Odunton said on Asaase FM that, “I am just getting information from the president of the Ghana association in Turkey that Atsu has been found in Hatay.”

According to reports, the player was injured and needed medical attention, so he was taken to a hospital in Turkey.
Prior to the catastrophe on Monday, Christian Atsu scored the game-winning goal for Hatayaspor in the Turkish Super League off the bench on Sunday.
The good news of Christian Atsu’s recovery has made many Ghanaians relieved of their worries.
