The Community Practice Pharmacists Association (CPPA) has revealed a partnership with the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) to accredit one thousand community pharmacies countrywide.
This collaboration aims to enhance healthcare accessibility for both Ghanaian residents and visitors. By accrediting these pharmacies, the objective is to elevate the quality of healthcare services and support NHIA’s mission to establish a sustainable and fair social health insurance scheme.

During a CPPA Virtual General Meeting themed “Providing Quality Care Through Health Insurance,” Chairman Emmanuel Kwaku Ireland highlighted the initiative’s goal of offering financial protection against healthcare costs for Ghanaians. He emphasized the importance of ensuring public access to prescribed medications covered by NHIS and providing comprehensive education on appropriate medication usage.
In her keynote address, NHIA Deputy CEO Dr. Mrs. Yaa Pokuaa Baiden stressed the authority’s dedication to collaborating with stakeholders in Ghana’s healthcare delivery system. She underscored the significance of accrediting facilities based on predetermined industry standards to ensure quality healthcare provision.
Dr. Baiden also urged more pharmacies to enroll in NHIS services, citing improved payment of claims as an incentive for participation.
