The Democracy Hub, the organization responsible for coordinating the #Occupy JulorBi House demonstrations, has announced its plan to host a subsequent iteration of the protest in the near future.
In an official statement, the group has revealed that this protest is scheduled to occur between December 1 and December 31, 2023, at the ‘Julorbi House.’ Its primary objective is to raise awareness about various concerns related to governance and democracy within Ghana.
The group has voiced significant apprehensions about the country’s current state under the leadership of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo. Among the key issues motivating their protest are persistent high rates of unemployment among Ghanaian youth and economic mismanagement, among others.
“Democracy Hub believes that the President’s stewardship of this country demonstrates incompetence, a lack of integrity, routine abuse of power and greed.
“We are perturbed high levels persistent unemployment among the youth; and the level of economic mismanagement that has jeopardized the future of young people as well as pushed nearly millions of Ghanaians into poverty. We are further concerned about the deteriorating press freedom, extra judicial killing, and the prosecution activities for democratic reforms,” part of the read.

The picket, under the banners of #OccupyJulorBi House and #JustResign, as mentioned in the statement, aims to demand the immediate resignation of the President of Ghana. Alternatively, it calls for the possibility of his impeachment by Parliament.
“We demand the urgent prosecution of corrupt officials, including persons in the president’s family and inner circles who have contributed to what has been described by a former cabinet Minister as “a friends, family and Concubines Government,” the group continued.
Furthermore, the group has stated that the protests will also serve as an opportunity to enlighten Ghanaians about the necessity for a new Constitution. They have clarified that the existing constitution of Ghana, which dates back to 1992, is inadequate in addressing the contemporary challenges confronting the nation.
“We believe in progressive constitutional reforms that will provide a better framework for social equity and economic justice for our people; as well as help confront the abuse of power and impunity more squarely,” the statement added
The inaugural #OccupyJulorBi House event took place from September 21 to September 23, 2023. While there were initial clashes between the demonstrators and the police on the first day due to allegations of rule violations during the protest, the group persisted in their demonstration to express their dissatisfaction with the government.
