The organizers of the Fix the Country protest, Democracy Hub Ghana, have announced a change to their original protest date, December 30 to 31, 2023.
The Ghana Police Service filed an application in the High Court seeking an injunction prohibiting three groups, including Democracy Hub Ghana, from staging rallies over the Yuletide season.
The cops are seeking to thwart the group’s planned month-long protest in December.
During a news conference in Accra on Thursday, one of the group’s conveners, Naa Densuah, stated that some changes had to be made due to the injunction.
“We understand your frustration and desire for a brighter future; the Christmas spirit is one of hope and renewal.” In response to the unfair order, we have petitioned the Supreme Court to overturn these restrictions to our constitutionally protected freedom to protest. We are confident in the strength of our argument and determined to protecting the democratic principles we cherish.”
“As a result of the injunction, we are forced to make significant changes to the previously announced schedule.” We intend to stage the demonstration on December 30-31. “We will provide more information about this in due course,” a Fix the Country Movement convener stated.
In addition, the group has filed an application with the Supreme Court to challenge an injunction sought by the Ghana Police Service.
Naa Densuah made a plea to Ghanaians, imploring them to support Democracy Hub Ghana’s legal efforts by contributing to their legal fund.
“In the meantime, we urge all Ghanaians to contribute to the legal fund in order to support our legal team.” Your contributions will help us manage this illegal obstacle. “We urge all citizens to organize a peaceful and effective protest,” she said.
