The Electoral Commission (EC) has assured the public of its readiness for the district-level elections scheduled for Tuesday, December 19. Nearly 66,000 candidates are competing for assembly and unit committee seats in the upcoming municipal elections.

The EC provided figures indicating a total of 66,257 candidates, with 18,755 running for assembly member positions and 47,502 for unit committee member roles.

The electoral battleground spans 6,215 electoral areas distributed across 216 metropolitan, municipal, and district legislatures.

Dr. Sereboe Quarcoo, the Director of Electoral Services at the EC, affirmed that all necessary arrangements have been made to ensure the smooth organization of the polls. He assured the public that adequate voting materials would be available at every polling place on the election day.

He stated, “With the exception of ballot papers, all the materials are there, and when we are going, we don’t go with partial delivery; we go with full delivery, so we are not expecting to have shortages. Should shortages arise, the district office will address them, barring any other circumstances.”
