The Electoral Commission (EC) of Ghana has officially released the list of candidates qualified to contest in the upcoming presidential elections scheduled for December 7, 2024.
After a meticulous review of nomination forms submitted between September 9 and September 13, the EC confirmed that 13 candidates have met all necessary legal requirements.
Prominent candidates include Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and former President John Dramani Mahama representing the National Democratic Congress (NDC). The roster also features several independent candidates, such as Alan John Kwadwo Kyerematen and George Twum-Barima-Adu. Other notable party representatives are Christian Kwabena Andrews from the Ghana Union Movement, Kofi Akpaloo of the Liberal Party of Ghana, and Hassan Abdulai Ayariga from the All People’s Congress.
The announcement was made by Samuel Tettey, Deputy Chairman of Operations at the EC, who emphasized the commission’s commitment to ensuring compliance with Ghana’s electoral laws. This transparency is expected to enhance public confidence in the electoral process as the nation approaches the polls.
The upcoming elections promise to be fiercely competitive, showcasing a diverse array of candidates from established political parties and emerging independent voices. As campaign activities ramp up in the coming months, these candidates will engage with voters to secure their support.
