The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has restored power supply to the Accra Academy after disconnecting it on Monday, February 19, 2024. The disconnection was a result of an unpaid debt amounting to GH¢400,000.
Sources within the ECG have indicated that the government has allocated GH¢5 million to settle outstanding debts owed by Second Cycle institutions, which includes the Accra Academy.

The Free SHS Secretariat has acknowledged the situation and authorized the payment of the outstanding arrears.
ECG stated that the disconnect is a component of a larger effort to recoup money that is owed to the business.
In related news, unpaid electrical arrears totaling GH¢1 million and GH¢23 million, respectively, might lead to the Ministry of Finance and Parliament being cut off from the national grid.
