The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has issued a warning to its customers, indicating that additional power disruptions may occur during peak demand hours, specifically from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. The company attributes this to the overloading of 630 distribution transformers in communities around its operational zones, resulting from a surge in power demand.
The overloaded transformers may experience blown fuses and broken wires, leading to outages, particularly during the specified peak load hours.

In response to the situation, the ECG reassures customers that transformer upgrading and new projects are underway to alleviate the strain on these transformers and ensure a more reliable power supply. The company urges affected customers in listed communities to report any localized outage or voltage fluctuations through the ECG Call Center or social media channels for prompt rectification.
The Managing Director of ECG, Samuel Dubik Mahama, acknowledged the maintenance challenges the company is facing, emphasizing that working with machines entails the risk of unexpected failures. He clarified that the current issues are not related to fuel but rather machine malfunctions.
Meanwhile, former President John Dramani Mahama and the NDC minority in Parliament have been advocating for the government to provide a ‘dumsor’ calendar to assist businesses in planning for potential power disruptions.
