The Electoral Commission (EC) has announced that it will release the provisional voter register for the December 7 general elections to political parties on Friday, August 16.
This follows pressure from the National Democratic Congress (NDC), which has criticized the delay and accused the EC of incompetence and an attempt to provide a sub-standard register. Dr. Omane Boamah, the NDC’s Director of Elections, warned that such delays could have serious consequences and potentially lead to chaos.

In response, Dr. Serebuor Quaicoe, the EC’s Director of Training, explained that the commission is legally required to compile the provisional register within 90 days after the completion of data collection. He clarified that although the initial plan did not include a mop-up registration, the additional time needed to finalize the register has extended the process.
Quaicoe assured that the EC is operating within the legal timeframe and confirmed that the provisional register will be provided to political parties by Friday.
