The Electoral Commission (EC) has made preparations for the upcoming voter registration exercise, deploying Biometric Voter Registration (BVR) kits and other necessary logistics to its regional and district offices ahead of the scheduled commencement tomorrow.

Included in the logistical support are Turbonet devices, Registration Forms 1A and 1C, and laminators.

In an exclusive interview with the Daily Graphic, the Chairperson of the EC, Jean Mensa, revealed that a total of 3,277 personnel had been engaged for the 21-day exercise, which will run from May 7 to May 27, 2024.

The registration will cover all 268 district offices of the EC, including Santrokofi, Akpafu, Lolobi, and Likpe (SALL) in the Guan Constituency in the Oti Region.

Additionally, 775 registration centers will be opened in distant and riverine areas, with mobile registration teams dispatched to handle those communities. Registration centers will also be established in 25 public universities.

The personnel breakdown includes supervisors, registration officers, data entry clerks, technicians, and laminators, with extensive training conducted for both permanent and non-permanent staff to ensure effectiveness.

Technicians have been trained for each district to troubleshoot and fix any issues with the BVR kits, and backup kits are available in case of breakdowns.

Mrs. Mensa emphasized the importance of citizens exercising their civic responsibility and urged stakeholders to cooperate to ensure a successful exercise. The EC plans to submit the provisional voters register to political parties between July 9 and 18, 2024, and conduct an exhibition of the register between July 15 and 24, 2024, with the final voters register expected between August 30 and September 5, 2024.
