Ghanaian gospel musician Empress Gifty has filed a GH₵20 million defamation lawsuit against Evangelist Patricia Asiedu, popularly known as Nana Agradaa, over what she describes as malicious and defamatory statements made during a live broadcast on May 13, 2025.
According to a writ of summons, Agradaa allegedly used her Facebook, TikTok, and YouTube platforms to accuse Empress Gifty of promiscuity, zoophilia, and inappropriate relations with pastors, during a tirade tied to her ongoing dispute with Gifty’s husband, Hopeson Adorye.
Empress Gifty’s legal team asserts that the accusations were false, vulgar, and made with malicious intent, and that the viral nature of the video has triggered widespread ridicule and reputational damage, both locally and internationally. They emphasize that the defamatory content has not only tarnished her professional brand, but also disrupted her family life, with her children reportedly facing ridicule in school.
Furthermore, the singer claims the controversy has had tangible consequences, including the jeopardy of a major international performance slated for August 2025.
In addition to the GH₵20 million in damages, Empress Gifty is demanding:
- A perpetual injunction preventing Agradaa from making or repeating such statements;
- A court order for the removal of all defamatory videos and audios from Agradaa’s online platforms; and
- A public retraction and apology.
The case adds to a growing list of high-profile defamation suits in Ghana’s entertainment and religious circles, underscoring the increasing legal scrutiny of online speech and personal attacks in the digital age.
