The Minister for Energy, Dr. Matthew Opoku-Prempeh, has dismissed claims suggesting that Ghana has reverted to the days of power cuts, known as dumsor.

He stated that the current power outages in the country cannot be likened to the widespread outages experienced during the previous National Democratic Congress (NDC) administration.

Addressing the inauguration of the NPP campaign team in the Ashanti Region, Dr. Opoku-Prempeh assured the public that efforts are underway to tackle the challenges.

“Let those who want the timetable bring it. I don’t know of any timetable because the ECG has said it is not necessary. Why would someone just wish evil for the country?” he questioned.

Dr. Opoku-Prempeh stressed that improving the energy sector is an ongoing process, and his ministry is dedicated to enhancing the situation.

“I have promised you that I am going to work on it. It is not a work that is a single event; it is a process, and we would continue to work on it for the energy sector to become better.”

Supporting ECG’s decision against introducing a load-shedding timetable, Dr. Opoku-Prempeh asserted that such a schedule would be detrimental to the country.

Despite the current challenges, Dr. Opoku-Prempeh highlighted that the situation represents an improvement compared to the period under the NDC’s governance. He claimed that the energy sector under the NPP administration is significantly better, citing a 300-fold improvement.

“In comparing four years to four years, the NPP administration’s Energy Sector is 300 times better than that of Mahama.”

In recent weeks, several regions across the country, particularly in Greater Accra, have experienced power outages, causing frustration among citizens and disrupting daily activities for businesses and individuals.
