Eunice Buah Asomah-Hinneh, the Chief Executive Officer of Labianca Company Limited, has reportedly passed away. Sources indicate that she died in the early hours of Tuesday. Asomah-Hinneh was not only a prominent businesswoman but also a member of Ghana’s Council of State.
Since its establishment in 2008, Labianca Company Limited has been a major player in the importation and distribution of frozen foods, including chicken, beef, pork, mutton, turkey, and fish. Under her leadership, the company became one of the leading distributors in the industry.
On August 8, 2022, the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) published an investigative report concerning Labianca Group of Companies, owned by Asomah-Hinneh. The report revealed that the company had evaded import duties, resulting in a recovery of ¢1.074 million by the OSP, representing the shortfall in import duties paid to the state.

The report, signed by Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng, alleged that Asomah-Hinneh engaged in influence-peddling, which led to reduced tax liabilities for Labianca Company Limited. It was alleged that she used her positions on the Council of State and the Board of Directors of the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA) to secure favorable decisions from the Customs Division.
A Deputy Commissioner of Customs in charge of Operations, Joseph Adu Kyei, was also cited by the OSP for issuing an unlawful customs advance ruling. This ruling allegedly reduced the benchmark values of goods imported by Labianca Limited, resulting in lower tax obligations for the company.
