The family of a first-year student at Aburi Girls Senior High School in the Eastern Region is considering taking legal action against the school following the tragic death of their daughter.

The 15-year-old student passed away on February 5, 2024, after experiencing severe stomach pains.

According to sources within the school, it is alleged that the student was denied necessary medical attention by the school nurse, who accused her of pretending to be ill. Tragically, by the time she was eventually taken to the hospital, it was too late, and she had already passed away.

The body of the deceased student has been transferred to the Tetteh Quarshie Memorial Hospital for an autopsy, and the police have initiated an investigation into the circumstances surrounding her untimely death.

In an interview with Kasapa News, Miss Danso, an aunt of the deceased, expressed the family’s anguish and stated that they would pursue legal action against the school if it is determined that the school bears responsibility for their daughter’s death. She emphasized that the school authorities should have ensured that the sick girl received immediate medical attention, particularly considering the school’s close proximity to the hospital.

“We will sue the school if the investigation reveals that the school was at fault for our daughter’s death,” Miss Danso asserted. “The school’s leadership should have ensured that the sick girl was taken to the hospital for treatment if the school’s sick bay was unable to provide appropriate care.”

The family’s determination to seek justice underscores the gravity of the situation and the importance of accountability within educational institutions. They argue that the school had a duty of care towards their daughter, and any failure to fulfill this obligation resulted in tragic consequences.
