A devastating fire broke out on Thursday night, engulfing a two-storey hostel at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), leaving students in shock and despair.
The blaze consumed the entire second floor of the nine-bedroom apartment, leaving the affected students homeless and their personal belongings reduced to ashes. Fortunately, no casualties were reported.

DO3 Peter Addai, the Public Relations Officer of the Ashanti Regional Fire Service, reported to Citi News about the efforts to extinguish the fire and mentioned that investigations are ongoing to determine its cause. He also noted that eleven rooms were spared from the fire and are currently habitable.

In response to the crisis, the Students Representative Council (SRC) of KNUST has arranged temporary accommodation for the affected students at the SRC hostel.

The council is also stressing the importance of adhering to safety protocols to prevent such incidents in the future.
