Eight students from the Chiana Senior High School in the Kassena-Nankana West District of the Upper East Region have been expelled by the Ghana Education Service (GES) for uttering disparaging remarks against President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
You may remember that eight students were featured in a last year viral video making derogatory remarks about the President and his free SHS program.
Following their wrongdoing, the national management of the GES issued a statement condemning the behavior and issuing an apology to the President on behalf of the public, the school, and the students.
The Director General of the Ghana Education Service, Dr. Eric Nkansah, however, ordered the expulsion of all eight students from the school in a letter dated November 29, 2022, following thorough investigations into the students’ behavior.
One of the students’ behavior was “considered very undesirable and opposed to the appropriate norms of conduct generally required of any student in our Educational system in Ghana,” according to a letter to her parents.
The pupils were advised by the GES to take the dismissal as “a major turning point in her life to bring the desired change in her behaviour and attitude towards life.”
