Renowned Ghanaian musician and actor, Andy Nii Akrashie, widely known by his stage name OJ Blaq, has passed away at the age of 40. His demise occurred on Thursday, August 17, 2023.
The news of his passing was confirmed by individuals within the entertainment industry and the Empowerment Worship Center, where he served as a junior pastor.
The exact cause of his death has yet to be officially confirmed, but it’s worth noting that OJ Blaq had been grappling with kidney disease for a number of years. This ailment was diagnosed in 2021, and he had been undergoing dialysis treatment in order to manage his condition.
Despite periods of apparent improvement and resuming his activities, OJ Blaq’s health seemed to deteriorate as evidenced by significant weight loss, raising concerns among his supporters.
OJ Blaq was celebrated for his unique style of rapping and his propensity to tackle substantial subjects through his music. His musical journey commenced in the early 2000s, culminating in the release of his debut album, “The Blaq Mixtape,” in 2006. He went on to release numerous other albums and singles, including the popular track “Chalewote.”
In addition to his accomplishments in the music industry, OJ Blaq was a well-respected actor, having appeared in various Ghanaian films. He notably starred in the renowned ‘Suncity’ TV series.
