In late April 2024, an 11-member Ghanaian paralympic team landed in Norway for the Fjordkraft Bergen City Marathon but did not register or participate.
According to a document from Ghana’s National Security Authority, the team members fled to several Schengen nations.
According to the paper, one team member, Nana Antwi, was held by Norwegian officials in late April while attempting to leave for Sweden.

The team’s coach, George Gyamfi Gyasi, collapsed and was taken to Oslo University Hospital, where he died on May 17, 2024.
The Norwegian embassy in Accra has contacted neighboring Schengen and West African diplomatic posts to assist in locating and repatriating the missing team members, but the search is still underway.
The National Paralympic body (NPC) of Ghana informed 3Sports that the 11-member team was not associated with the body and has distanced itself from the group. As a result of their involvement in this occurrence, the Ernestay Foundation, Mr. Theodore Mawuli Viwotor, and Mr. Ernest Yaw Ayisi have been suspended indefinitely by the NPC.
