Ghana’s U-20 women’s team, the Black Princesses, clinched the country’s 11th gold medal at the ongoing African Games with a remarkable come-from-behind victory against Nigeria at the Cape Coast Stadium on Thursday night.

The Ghanaians faced an early setback when goalkeeper Afi Amenyeku mishandled a routine ball in the penalty box, allowing Edeh Njideka to capitalize and give Nigeria the lead in the 23rd minute.

However, displaying great resilience, the Princesses dominated the remainder of the first half, creating several scoring opportunities without finding the back of the net.

Boosted by the support of a lively crowd in Cape Coast, Yussif Basigi’s team finally drew level in the 77th minute when Tracy Twum expertly finished from the left flank.

With neither team able to break the deadlock in regulation time, the match went into extra time.

In the 9th minute of extra time, Mukarama Abdulai seized the moment, controlling a precise pass inside the area before slotting home a decisive low shot into the bottom corner, sending the stadium into raptures.

Despite late pressure from the Super Falconets, the Black Princesses held firm to secure the victory.

This triumph marks Ghana’s second gold medal in the women’s football event at the African Games, with their previous success coming in the 2015 edition, under the guidance of coach Yussif Basigi, who has once again led the team to glory.
