Following a viral video, the headmaster and senior housemaster of the Ghana Senior High School (GHANASCO) in Tamale have been suspended from their roles.
It will be remembered that a video in which several students, claiming to be GHANASCO students, were seen utilizing certain bathroom cubicles constructed at the school as dorms went popular on social media, drawing the attention of Ghana Education Service (GES) administration.
The Ghana Education Service termed the situation as “very disturbing and unfortunate” in response to the apparent concern.
According to information available to the GES, “only 1,467 students have enrolled out of the 1,790 vacancies declared by the school.”

Cassandra Twum Ampofo, Head of the GES Public Relations Unit, indicated in a statement that the school was projected to have excess capacity to accommodate an additional 300 students.
As a result, she claimed that the situation in which some school pupils were seen sleeping in the aforementioned cubicles was inappropriate.
Following the unsettling nature of the incident, which was captured on film, she stated that the Headmaster and Senior Housemaster had been directed to step aside.
This, she said, would allow the Regional Director of Education to conduct additional inquiries into the situation and report back in two weeks.
“Management wishes to assure all our stakeholders and the general public that it will continue to ensure that the students entrusted in our care operate in the safe school environment,” she concluded.
