The Ghana Meteorological Agency (GMET) has issued a warning to residents living in flood-prone areas, urging them to consider relocating to higher ground due to the intensification of rainfall.
Intense rain was observed in various parts of the country on Tuesday evening and Wednesday morning, with forecasts indicating the likelihood of further rainfall in the coming days.
Joseph Tetteh Portuphy, Deputy Director in charge of forecasting at GMET, emphasized the need for citizens to exercise additional caution during this period.
“We need to recognize that we are entering the flooding season, where even minimal rainfall can saturate the ground. Once the ground is saturated, any subsequent rainfall can result in flash floods. Therefore, it is crucial for us to clear out gutters and drains and to be vigilant, especially those residing in flood-prone areas.
“When rainfall is expected, please take precautions and seek higher ground or safer shelter. You can return home after the rains have subsided,” advised the Deputy Director.
