The Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) has granted an extension to June 21, 2025 for compliance with the new gold trading license framework. This decision follows extensive consultations with industry stakeholders who requested additional time for the transition.
The extension permits current license holders – including those issued by the former PMMC and the Lands Ministry – to maintain gold trading operations through June 21, 2025 while transitioning to the new regulatory framework.
GoldBod has issued a firm reminder that this will be the final extension. Beginning June 22, 2025, all gold trading activities in Ghana must be conducted exclusively under a valid GoldBod-issued license.
The Board has issued a stern reminder that any gold trading activities conducted under expired PMMC or Ministry licenses after June 21, 2025 will constitute a criminal violation under Section [X] of the Ghana Gold Board Act, 2025 (ACT 1140).
Effective immediately as of May 22, 2025, GoldBod has revoked all export authorizations previously granted under legacy licensing systems. The Board now holds exclusive rights as Ghana’s sole authorized exporter of small-scale gold under the new regulatory framework.
Her is the complete statement

The Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) invites all prospective gold traders to submit license applications via the official portal: www.goldbod.gov.gh. The Board emphasizes this is the only authorized platform for new license registrations under the current regulatory framework.
GoldBod emphasizes that while license applications will remain open after June 21, 2025, all gold trading activities must cease immediately for unlicensed individuals and businesses. Operating without an approved license after the deadline constitutes a violation of Act 1140.
The Ghana Gold Board acknowledged the cooperation of industry stakeholders and citizens, stating this transition forms a critical component of President John Dramani Mahama’s strategic vision to maximize national benefits from Ghana’s gold resources through enhanced regulatory frameworks.
