Hiplife icon Maradona Adjei Yeboah, popularly known as Guru NKZ, has re-entered the University of Ghana’s Student Representative Council (SRC) presidential race after successfully appealing his disqualification.

Guru had been initially disqualified by the SRC Electoral Commission due to his non-resident status, a violation of Article 30, which requires candidates to be campus residents and eligible to contest for a Junior Common Room (JCR) position in their hall.

Guru, alongside his running mate Jeffery Adu Yeboah, confirmed during vetting that they were not residents of any university hall, leading to their disqualification. However, their legal team quickly petitioned the Electoral Commission and the Office of the Dean of Student Affairs, challenging the decision and calling for a review.

The appeals process culminated in an interim injunction, which called for a temporary halt to the election process pending a full hearing. On September 15, 2024, the SRC Appeals Board ruled unanimously in favor of Guru, with a 7-0 decision, overturning his disqualification and reinstating him in the race.

Following this decision, Guru and his running mate will be included in the list of candidates for the upcoming presidential elections. The balloting for vetted candidates is scheduled for Monday, September 16, 2024.
