The Minister of Roads & Highway, represented by Stephen Pambiin Jalulah, commissioned a newly built Emergency Block which was fully financed and furnished by JL Properties and The Lindsay Foundation today at the Achimota Hospital.
The 95-year old facility has been serving it clients with an 8-bed emergency unit before the building of the current edifice. The old Emergency Unit which houses both males, females and Children in one facility.
Due to that, The Lindsay Foundation and JL Properties promised to build a new Emergency Unit for the Hospital after their visit last year December at the inauguration of the renovation of the Male Ward 4 of the Hospital.
Part of the Chief Executive Officer of JL Properties, Dr. James Orleans-Lindsay speech read, “It is a fact that out nation is faced with the challenge of inadequate health infrastructure and the socio economic impact of the COVID-19 Pandemic has communed for a sustained collaboration between government and the private sector to provide health infrastructure for all.”

The “John Kwaku Ewusi Orleans-Lindsay” Emergency Block was named after the father Dr. Lindsay which is a promised he made that on his next birthday, he will build an Emergency unit for the Hospital. “When I was here, I made a promise that, on my next birthday, I will build a complete for the Achimota Hospital. Twelve months later, this is me redeeming my promise.”

The inaugural ceremony saw prominent traditional rulers, high ranking members of parliament, Assembly Members and other notable Key Dignitaries of the Okaikwei North Municipal Assembly and the country at large. Some of the Dignitaries include, the Deputy Minister of Roads and Highways, MP for Okaikwei North, Theresa Lardi Awuni, Nene Mankrado, the Achimota Mantse, the Achimota Zongo Chief and many others.



Among the Keynote Speakers, the former Medical Superintendent of Achimota Hospital, Dr. David Kwabena Okoh in his keynote address stated that, the hospital over the years has done so well with the benevolence of a lot of corporate institutions and individuals to help add more services what was previously offered.
He stated that, Achimota Hospital offers the major procedures offered at the other “big hospitals” in the country. “This was an emergency having both males, females, children lying together. This was an emergency where the bathrooms were shared. This was an emergency where you couldn’t triage very well and know which patient are critically ill. This was an emergency where there wasn’t the comfort of having a restroom for our nurses and doctors. This was an emergency where you couldn’t get a procedure room to be able to tackle life-threatening injuries. So this new emergency is going to such a wonderful purpose.” He added.

The Deputy Minister of Road and Highways, promised the hospital that, with the help of the government, it will construct an asphalt road leading the hospital to reduce the stress the pregnant go through anytime they visit the hospital.
The newly-constructed Emergency Unit houses, an 8-bed Male and Female ward, a pediatrics ward, bathrooms for each ward, a traige area, nurses and doctors station, a revenue point, procedure room and a central oxygen distribution point.
The whole administration of the Achimota Hospital says a big thank you to JL Properties and JL Foundation for the wonderful donation. They pledged to make good use of it.
