A woman from Tema had to endure the sudden loss of her husband while he was passionately watching Ghana’s final group game of the 2023 AFCON against Mozambique.
The woman, who chose to remain anonymous, shared her heartbreaking ordeal on Accra-based Happy FM.
According to her account, her late husband was an avid football fan, deeply engrossed in the match against Mozambique. She revealed that he was animated during the game, even switching channels occasionally to keep track of the Cape Verde vs Egypt match, which was happening simultaneously.

The woman recounted that her husband, displaying gestures of enthusiasm while watching the match, suddenly collapsed. Despite being rushed to the Tema General Hospital, he tragically passed away.
“My husband is a big fan of football who religiously follows Hearts and Kotoko matches. He was watching the Ghana vs Mozambique game. During the game, he kept on shouting and making gestures. He even threatened to sack the coach,” she told Happy FM, as quoted by Ghanaweb.
“At some point, the station changed to the Egypt versus Cape Verde game. He wanted Cape Verde to beat Egypt so whenever Cape Verde got the ball, he kept on encouraging them to push ahead and score.
“He was making gestures and jumping about. All I could see was that he collapsed and died before we could get to the hospital.”
For the second consecutive AFCON, the Black Stars finished with just two points from Group B and lost their last group match against Mozambique, drawing 2-2 after having a two-goal lead.
