Inter Miami has made the decision to terminate the contract of goalkeeper Nick Marsman, a move that comes shortly after Marsman expressed concerns about the club’s readiness for the arrival of Lionel Messi.
The decision appears to be a result of the comments Marsman made regarding Inter Miami’s infrastructure and capabilities to accommodate a player of Messi’s stature.
In June, Marsman openly questioned the club’s preparedness for Messi’s potential arrival, particularly highlighting the temporary nature of the stadium and the lack of proper security measures. He shared his reservations about the club’s readiness with ESPN, even though he expressed hope that Messi would join.
However, it seems that Marsman’s comments have led to consequences beyond just voicing his opinions. The termination of his contract suggests that Inter Miami has taken his remarks seriously and has decided to part ways with him.

In the meantime, Messi’s transition to Inter Miami has been highly successful. The Argentine superstar has already made a significant impact, scoring seven goals in just four appearances for the club. His exceptional performance includes a notable brace against FC Dallas in the Leagues Cup round of 16, which has propelled him to the joint-fourth position in the club’s all-time highest goalscorers’ list.
Marsman, a 32-year-old Dutch goalkeeper, had joined Inter Miami in 2021 and had made 29 appearances during his tenure with the Major League Soccer (MLS) side.
