James, a former luminary of Keta SHS, had bright prospects ahead of him as he was preparing to embark on a journey for further studies at Howard University in the USA. However, fate dealt a cruel blow as he fell victim to a mysterious poisoning, cutting short his dreams and aspirations.
James Lutterodt’s name became synonymous with excellence and intelligence when he represented Ketasco in the 2021 National Science & Maths Quiz, one of the most prestigious academic competitions in Ghana.
Alongside his teammates, Francisca Lamini and Bright, they showcased their brilliance and made the Volta Region proud. Although they did not emerge as the winners, their remarkable performance captivated the nation and earned them well-deserved recognition.
The trio’s outstanding feat during the competition garnered widespread attention and appreciation. Ghanaians hailed their impressive performance, and their slogan “God of 1ders” became a dominant hashtag in discussions and social media platforms. Their accomplishment was historic for KETASCO, as they became the first school from the Volta Region to reach the finals of the competition since its inception in 1993.

Their third-place finish with 30 points showcased their intellectual prowess, even though they were surpassed by Presbyterian Boys’ Secondary School (Presec) and Prempeh College.
Upon their return to Keta SHS after the competition, the entire team was welcomed with a grand procession from the Keta Business College Junction (KETABUSCO) to the school campus. They received a guard of honor from the school’s cadet corps, and a cultural ceremony was held where they were honored by Torgbui Dzelu IV, the Dufia of Dzelukope.
The news of James Lutterodt’s passing is a tragic loss not only for his family and friends but also for the entire Keta SHS community and the nation as a whole.
His potential and bright future were cut short, leaving a void in the hearts of those who knew and admired him. The circumstances surrounding his mysterious poisoning raise questions and demand a thorough investigation to bring clarity and justice.
Ghanaians mourn the loss of a promising young talent and extend their condolences to James Lutterodt’s family, friends, and the Keta SHS community. May his soul rest in peace, and may his legacy of intelligence and determination continue to inspire future generations.
