Juventus Duorinaah has made history as Ghana’s first hearing-impaired lawyer, marking a significant milestone for both the legal profession and the disability community in the country.
He was part of 777 new lawyers who were called to bar on October 11, 2024, during a colorful ceremony held at the Accra International Conference Centre (AICC).
Born in Wa, in the Upper West Region, Duorinaah began his education at the Wa School for the Deaf. After graduating from the Senior High Technical School for the Deaf (SHTSD) in 2007, he pursued higher education against all odds. He enrolled at the University of Ghana (UG), where he earned a first-class degree in Sociology and Political Science.
His academic journey continued internationally as he obtained a Master of Laws (LLM) degree in Human Rights Law from Cardiff University in the UK.
Upon returning to Ghana, Duorinaah enrolled in the LLB program at UG, graduating with second-class lower honors. He then successfully passed the entrance exams for the Ghana School of Law, where he underwent six years of rigorous training.
Notably, the Ghana School of Law provided him with a sign language interpreter throughout his education, ensuring that he faced no additional financial burdens.
