A devastating fire outbreak at the Kantamanto market in Accra on Thursday morning left over 100 shops completely destroyed, causing significant losses to traders.
The fire, which began at dawn, spread rapidly, prompting traders to scramble in an attempt to salvage what they could from their shops. The blaze caused extensive damage, leaving many business owners devastated and uncertain about their future.

In the aftermath of the fire, individuals believed to be scrap dealers took advantage of the situation by collecting metal items from the debris to sell for profit. According to reports by Joy News’ Collins Frimpong, these individuals removed hot metals from the wreckage without protective gear, exposing themselves to potential injuries in the process.

While traders are still reeling from the disaster, some are alleging that the fire may have been an act of arson. The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has assured the public that it is investigating the cause of the fire to determine whether there was foul play involved.
The affected shop owners have called on the government for immediate support to help them rebuild their businesses. While some traders are already planning to recover and reopen their shops, others are urging authorities to prioritize a thorough investigation into the incident and implement stricter market safety measures to prevent future occurrences.
